Highlights of Bali
Adrenaline-lovers: Watch out for cliff jumping
Hiking, cliff jumping, natural water slides or simply taking a dip in the turquoise blue lagoon like waters at Aling-Aling & surrounding waterfalls. You can still find a good portion of peace here, because it is not as crowded as other waterfalls (and despite being the most
1. “Bye bye sun!” Enjoy a sunset!
Don’t miss to watch a sunset in Bali. Clouds and the sky are dyed in shades of pink, red & orange which make the sky look like it’s set on fire. It’s beauty will take your breath away and make you feel insignificant compared to this wide wonderful world.
Did you know about ‘Pantai Jerman’ – German Beach – close to Kuta? Probably you think right now that many German Tourists like to hang at that beach, but the name has a different origin: Once there was a German hermit who built his house too close to the beach. As the sea level was rising over the years, the sea swallowed his house and all his possessions. Pretty dramatic, huh? Yet a very special spot to watch the sun dive into the ocean. What else to do during 2 days in Kuta & Seminyak?
2. “Lets swing, Baby!”
Aren’t Sunrises just as beautiful as Sunsets?
It’s true, sunrises are often overseen (or better overslept!) although the moment when the sun first rises from the horizon is worth a million dollar! A very special place to see the sunrise is in the East of Bali in Jasri: where palm trees still offer shade directly at the beach and you can listen to the sounds of the wave while starting your day together with the sun. What else to do during 2 days in East Bali?
Insider tip: Discover the inner child in you on the swing by the beach or start your day with a sunrise surf session. Learn how to surf!
3. Magical Rice fields
No need to apply a filter on this intense green. It is real!
Stroll through Ubud’s rice fields. Done it already? Well, we will not believe you, if you tell us you got tired of it, because there is no way the sight over rice paddies could possibly ever get old. Check the area around Cafe Pomegranate and have some lunch there!
4. “Time to get wet!” in a waterfall
Don’t spend all your time on the crowded coast of southwest Bali, because there is so much more culture and nature that awaits you in central mountains and north Bali. There are various waterfalls canyons in the midst of the jungle to explore.
Hiking, cliff jumping, natural water slides or simply taking a dip in the turquoise blue lagoon like waters at Aling-Aling & surrounding waterfalls. You can still find a good portion of peace here, because it is not as crowded as other waterfalls (and despite being the most beautiful one, to our mind!). You can also do quite a hike here, as the river runs down to the valley in several waterfalls with view points and a beautiful canyon! Check out more highlights of North Bali!
5. LOCAL STYLE – EAT LIKE A LOCAL
Different countries – different eating habits. Chinese prefer chopsticks, western countries use a knife and a fork and Indonesians use the right hand. Back in the old days the left hand was used for the ‘toilet stuff’. Using the fingers enhances the food experience! It isn’t dirty, it is super fun and easy: Try it! How to do it? By pinch all your five fingers together, and use it like a clam for the food, bring them close to your mouth and, ta-da you eat like local now. Indonesians are convinced that the food tastes best like this and it has nothing to do with poverty. Learn more about prejudices on in our Blog: We are all full of shit: Clichés about Indonesia!
Try delicious Balinese Food at Ibu Oki in Jimbaran (By the way: Ibu means Mrs. and mom in Indonesian!). Learn more about local and street food in Indonesia!
6. “Let’s ride some waves!“ Bali –Mekka for Surfers
The choice is yours: Either you throw your board off the cliff and jump after it or you paddle out from the small beach between the cliffs at “Honeymoon Cliff”. But keep an eye on the swell, because there is only a wave if the swell is big. So if you think Padang-Padang, Kuta or Batu Bolong are too pro for you, check out Honeymoon. It will be nice and quiet! Finde your accommodation close by with HSH Stay and check what to do during 2 days in Bukit area.
7. “Island of gods” stroll through a temple
…or in this case crawl into one on Nusa Penida, one of Bali’s south eastern sub-islands. Goa Giri Putri is a very unique temple situated in a deep cave. Getting there includes climbing some stairs and crawling through a rather narrow hole, but once you made it you’ll end up in a magical place. Travel back in time & Explore Nusa Penida – Bali’s Secret Island! Should I cover up, when entering a sacred place? Learn more about Do’s & Don’ts in Indonesia.
8. “Black is beautiful!” Bali’s black beaches
The back beaches in the East of Bali are breath taking beautiful. If you get a bit closer to it, you will see that the black sand sparkles, as if millions of tiny diamonds were hidden inside it. Other highlights of east Bali.
Enjoy the scenery at Keramas beach: A nice spot to relax and watch surfers taking waves. But watch out, the sand can get rather hot, so bring your flippi-floppi’s if the sun is out!
9. “Dive under!” and discover an old ship wreck
You don’t need to have a diving license to explore Bali’s magical underwater world. In Tulamben, East Bali, lays the UUS Liberty Ship wreck on the ground of the ocean (find more diving and snorkelling sights on Bali). Rent some goggles and flippers and jump directly from the beach into the sea. About 40m from the shore you will find this immense ship wreck. Simply look divers and swim above their bubble air bubbles that come to the water surface. Free open water Jacuzzi, jihhaaa! Find the cheapest places of close by!
